Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo

The demo for the upcoming PSP title, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker arrived today.  I gave it a try and so far I’m impressed.  Here’s my first impressions:

Graphics look great especially for a PSP game.  Cut scenes were divided between in game graphics and the sketchy motion comic style from the Portable Ops games.

The controls took a little getting used to but I was able to figure them out for the most part.  The analogue stick is used for your basic movement;  the D-Pad is used to press up against a wall, crouch and select items; left and right shoulder buttons are used for aiming and firing/attacking respectively; and the face buttons are actually used to control the camera like a second analogue nub.

I don’t know much about the story yet other than it takes place in Costa Rice, 1974 after the events of Snake Eater and Portable Ops.  Naked Snake (aka Big Boss) and his Militaires Sans Frontières (Soldiers without Borders) are set to fight off an unknown military force.

I didn’t get a chance to play co-op.  Game is set to release on May 25, 2010.

The demo was so good that i think this might make game of the year list for 2010. You can play as two different snakes in the demo. The camo snake has guns for sneak type play silencers and sniper rifle and the “rambo” snake has rocket launchers and heavy guns. In the trailer you see four snakes i wonder how the other types will play like? I really hope this game has online play just not ad-hoc.
