PSN Launches Digital Comics Today
PSN has finally launched their digital comic service for the PSP. You can expect comics from Marvel, Disney, and IDW. If you havn’t already done so, download the PSP firmware update v6.20 which will add the Digital Comics reader application in a new “Extras” icon on the XMB.
You can browse the ”free comics” category if you are a little hesitant to buy. This PSP exclusive reader features Autoflow which allows readers to zoom in/out and move panel by panel or page by page. You will also be able to listen to music while reading.
I’m excited to try this out although I will not be using the music feature as I need absolute silence to read. Get the full lauch list here:
Edit: I downloaded a couple freebies and the first issue of Invincible Iron man for $1.99. I have to say, it’s really frikin’ cool to read comics on my PSP. The Autoflow works really well. It will pan across long panels, zoom into balloons on full page spreads and even shake the panel if there is a KABOOOOM! While I was a little disappointed with the $1.99 price point, I can tell that a lot of production went into making this. My only hope is that they start releasing current issues, even if they are a couple days late, so I can replace a few of my monthly floppies. I highly recommend for all PSP owners to give it a try.
